LÉO FERRÉ
From the heart of this village where the stones talk to each other, to Peille I am going to night with Marie, Greetings, Madam, with all your friends…
Translated from the song “Peille” de Léo Ferré
Léo Ferré wrote a homage-song, “Peille”, recalling his memories of the village, and in particular a restaurant that still exists today, “chez Cauvin Nana”. During an evening with friends, the singer and poet, visiting the village, decided to write a song about it. Among other things, he sings of stuffed vegetables and raviolis. These are still served by Nana in his restaurant on the main square.
A third of the song “Peille” is about the generosity of Anne Levamis, daughter of a former mayor of the village.
At the heart of the village, on Place Carnot, a bronze plaque immortalises Léo Ferré’s extended love affair with Peille. The artist was born not far from Peille, in the Principality of Monaco, where his remains are buried.
