MARY GARDEN – THE OPERA SINGER

Mary Garden (1874-1967) was a Scottish-born, American soprano who donated to the commune of Peille, in the 20s, the amount necessary for the construction of a war memorial commemorating those who fell during the great war. Mary Garden, who was a regular visitor of Peille, was then made an honorary citizen of the commune, and her name was given to the square where the monument stands, and later to the village’s music school.
