LAVENDER DISTILLATION
Description
For decades, the month of July in Peille marks the harvest of wild lavender on the heights of Madone pass. In the old days, this wild lavender was an important part of the local economy, as it was picked to be processed sold as essential oils to the great perfume houses of Grasse.
Nowadays, the harvest is open to all those who want to enjoy a friendly moment in natural surroundings. Once cut, the lavender is laid down, turned over, and dried in Saint-Roch Chapel at the entrance of the village, before being distilled in traditional fashion.
