FEAST OF SAINTE-ANNE

Description

Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ our Saviour, is the patron saint of La Grave de Peille neighbourhood.

Throughout the world, Saint Anne is venerated and prayed to in many places of cult, basilicas, churches, and chapels.

In France, the first sanctuary dedicated to Saint Anne was the old cathedral of Apt, in the Vaucluse department.
The 26th of July marks the anniversary of the dedication of a basilica in Constantinople erected in the honour of Saint Anne in the 6th century. Franciscans have her down in their calendar on the 26th of July 1263.

Thus, for the last weekend of July, the inhabitants of La Grave de Peille gather to celebrate Saint Anne’s day in honour of their neighbourhood patron saint. It is the opportunity to gather and celebrate the changes and evolutions of the neighbourhood, with a mass celebrated in Saint-Jean Marie Vianney Church at Le Grave de Peille and a popular ball.
The feast of Saint Anne also marks the end of July festivities in La Grave de Peille.
